Returning senior Nate Bravo ‘23 runs in a relay race in the 2021-2022 season.

The W+H indoor track and field team has aptly begun their season. Though the team has only had a small number of practices so far, the rigor of workouts are already in full swing. According to Coaches Jamal Burden and Taylor White, the level of intensity will only increase week to week in order to prepare each athlete for this competitive season.

The W+H campus unfortunately lacks its own track, so the coaches and captains have gotten creative in how to effectively train the runners. Current training practices include timed laps outdoors, sprint circuits, calisthenic workouts, and the team’s “favorite”: form-building, which consists of continuous running up and down three flights of stairs. While these workouts can be quite tiresome, the team has shown great dedication, resilience, and drive to improve.

“So far, our track team has been doing well. During our practices, we are working to get in shape for the season, and for our meets in the future. I want everyone to excel and become a better runner, thrower or jumper. It all starts at practice. All of the hard work and determination to be the best in each event is something I look forward to as the season progresses,” captain Matt Piccoli ‘23 said.

The team’s first meet will be on Tuesday, December 27 at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
