Softball team posts best record in many years

By Natalie Koegler ‘24

The W+H girls get pumped up for a home softball game.

This year, the Wardlaw + Hartridge Rams softball team had an absolutely incredible season that will go down in the books as one for the ages! The dedication and hard work of these remarkable young ladies paid off, as they finished the season with an impressive 17-7 record, marking it as the best performance the Rams have achieved in several years.

The players showed an unwavering commitment to honing their skills and improving as a cohesive unit. Despite starting off at a slight disadvantage with a relatively young roster lacking in senior leadership, the Rams refused to let that hinder their progress. They faced tough opponents head-on, defeating one team after another and fighting tooth and nail to secure their outstanding record.

One of the standout players of the season was Sarah Alves ‘24. Her performance on the mound was nothing short of remarkable, as she reached a groundbreaking milestone of 500 career strikeouts during the season.

Additionally, Sophia Riccio ‘26, proved herself as an asset to the team by stepping up to the plate both as a batter and a pitcher. By the end of the season, she had an impressive tally of 100 strikeouts.

Other members of the team also had incredible achievements such as catcher and third basemen Giselle Rodriguez ‘25, Devin Coleman ‘24 and Elyssa Ortega ‘26, who had incredibly impressive batting achievements consistently throughout the season. Players such as Zara Zaidi ‘24, Amelie Leu ‘25, Sydney Geissler ‘24, Kayla Martel ‘24 and Natalie Koegler ‘24 also contributed offense, great fielding plays and techniques.

The team’s great season would not have been possible without the leadership of head coach John Childs, whose incredible coaching and continuous support kept the girls motivated all season long.
