Junior Devin Coleman '23 gets ready to bat.

After months of sharpening their skills, the players on the W+H girls’ varsity softball team have taken on a new season with grit and determination. Despite having no seniors, this young team showed their strengths opening the season with a 19-0 win against Dunellen.

The team welcomes back a number of well-loved juniors and sophomores including co-captains Sarah Alves ‘24, Sydney Geissler ‘24 and Giselle Rodriguez ‘25.

This year also welcomes multiple new players including freshman pitcher Sophia Riccio ‘26, who has an average of eight strikeouts per game in her starts. Co-captain Sarah Alves, who has thrown four no-hitters in her pitching outings, said, “Gaining new players and going through new experiences facing some teams we previously haven’t seen before, we have been playing so hard and we really have a strong team and foundation set. I’m very hopeful for the future of the Wardlaw+Hartridge softball program, and I’m very proud to consider myself a Ram!”

This team’s success is not just due to individual performances. The team chemistry has also played a huge role in their accomplishments so far. The players have developed strong bonds both on and off the field.
