The Wardlaw + Hartridge boys’ varsity tennis team is back and better than ever! Coming off an 11-9 record from last school year, the team has played eight matches so far this season and has won seven of them. Led by veteran head coach Ron Haynes, W+H’s team ranks second in the GMC White Division and fifth in the overall GMC Conference.
Nidhin Kumar ‘24, one of the captains of the Rams along with Andrew Wolff ‘23, expressed his pride in the team and his excitement for the season: “So far this season, I have nothing but positive things to say about our team this year. We’re off to a strong start with a 7-1 record and we are aiming to win the division title this year. I really think we can win it this year; our team is full of high caliber players, from our singles lineup to our doubles, and every single member is a crucial part of the team. I could not be more proud as a captain of how this team has been progressing through the season.”
The team has seven varsity players: three singles players and four doubles players. Additionally, the team is equipped with several JV players. One of the varsity singles players, Jai Maurya ‘25, who transferred to W+H this year, commented on how the team helped him feel comfortable in the new school environment: “Joining the boys’ tennis team has helped me immensely to weave myself into a group of pioneering thinkers. Playing at the No. 2 spot for varsity has helped me be recognized by some of the seniors and juniors in our school, making my transfer here feel incredibly welcoming.”
The Rams were looking forward to their next match at home against Metuchen on May 8 as they continue to strive for a division title.
