As new and old athletes dive into the pool at the start of winter, the swim season finally begins. With Head Coach Shane Tonery and Assistant Coach Kim Valdez, the W+H swimmers are getting strong support and mentoring to succeed in future meets.
On November 29, W+H hosted its annual Relay Carnival, a meet featuring five schools competing in various relay events to kick off the swimming season. New swimmers got their first taste of competitive swimming and returning swimmers have a chance to get a feel of the competition ahead.
With promising freshmen and older W+H swimmers coming together, the Rams swam impressively against the other teams. Every W+H swimmer gave their best efforts and set off an exciting way to start the swim season.
Senior returning swimmer Giselle Lee ‘23 said, “We have a lot of new talent and potential to get stronger with many swimmers joining us and a team that has grown so much. I think we will do well because we have implemented hard training and are putting in the work.”
In practice, with the efforts of the coaches and swimmers alike, the Rams aim for improvement in endurance and speed in order to get the best times possible for this season. The first home meet is on December 12 against South Plainfield High School, so be sure to hit the observation deck and cheer our swimmers on!
