Baseball team breaks through for first victory

By Jaiden Patel ‘24

The Wardlaw + Hartridge Rams baseball team has concluded a season full of growth, resilience, and progress.

Captains Luke Tan ‘24 and Cian Nicholls ‘25 and Head Coach Chris Parisi led the team to its first win in two years! Coming off an 0-18 record last season, they achieved a 1-14-1 mark this year, showing considerable development.

“We took a bit of time to get used to each other as a team, but towards the last few games our practices began paying off and we had a few very well executed plays that showed how hard we had worked. Since no one on the team is graduating this year, we’ll just be better and more experienced next year. I am very excited for our future growth as a team,” Luke said.

On May 3, the team won 7-1 against The Academy for Urban Leadership Charter, creating a sense of joy and triumph in the team.

“The win felt good, the first of my high school baseball career,” Cian said. “The team worked hard and it was well deserved. We blew them out of the park. Baseball pun.”

Left fielder Luca DiGirolamo ‘25 added, “The first win we accomplished this season was a feeling of joy and accomplishment like no other. The team morale was high and we truly felt like a family. Each and every person on the team worked as hard as they could to bring home the win.”

Marcus Hamilton ‘24, outfielder, and Sammy Faust ‘25, second baseman, expressed similar sentiment and enthusiasm.

The team also tied Perth Amboy Magnet 9-9 on April 5. Of the game, Luke said, “The game was really close, and if we had made a few less errors we definitely would have won.”

The W+H baseball team expects to be back and better than ever next year.
